The music of the years gone by

If you find yourself in Las Vegas this weekend, you many want to check out the inventory auction at the Stardust Hotel and Casino. I bet there are plenty of collectibles that would be fun to have.

If you missed the news, the Stardust was closed on November 1st after a 48-year run in order to make way for a new $4 billion resort. "The Stardust opened July 2, 1958, as the world's largest hotel and catered to middle America with $6-a-night rooms and low-minimum stakes gambling."

Cutting edge at the time it opened, the Stardust was eclipsed by the Strip renaissance in the 1990's. I've always felt that Las Vegas captures everything that is America, good and bad, and juices it up to 11. And the Stardust used to be a key component. The management did a great job in marketing itself through allowing numerous movies and TV shows to tape there. Sad to see an icon pass, but that's the way of Las Vegas.
